With apple-picking season upon us, neighborhood celebrations and pledge drives based on the fall organic product are not too far off.
• Kauffman's Fruit Farm will hold its yearly Apple Festival on its ranch this end of the week, at 53 Weavertown Road, Ronks.
The celebration, which runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, highlights games, pick-your-own apples, creates, cart rides and creatures to take care of. All occasions at the ranch are money as it were.
The yearly Apple Dumpling Sale, which has been fund-raising for the Historic Ephrata Cloister for a long time, is moving to a preorder and pickup framework this year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Drive-through pickup times will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Cloister, 632 W. Principle St., Ephrata.
All dumplings must be requested and paid for ahead of time. All requests are expected by Wednesday, Sept. 23.
Dumplings come in standard and sugar free, and are $5 each. They are provided by Achenbach's Bakery of Leola.
They can be requested online at bit.ly/CloisterDumplings. Or then again, you can arrange them via mail by sending a note with your name, the quantity of dumplings you need and a check made payable to "Ephrata Cloister Associates," sent to Ephrata Cloister Associates Apple Dumplings, 632 W. Fundamental St., Ephrata, PA 17522.
